WWII stories aren't really pretty。 You can't escape the injustices and atrocities committed against the people in each occupied country, most especially the Jews, but this book did a great job of bringing together three women, completely different in background, portraying their emotions (fear, grief, shame, guilt, despair。。。and also courage, resolve, and loyalty) in a heartfelt way, and bringing them together with the tenuous trust they can muster during a time when trust was nearly impossible WWII stories aren't really pretty。 You can't escape the injustices and atrocities committed against the people in each occupied country, most especially the Jews, but this book did a great job of bringing together three women, completely different in background, portraying their emotions (fear, grief, shame, guilt, despair。。。and also courage, resolve, and loyalty) in a heartfelt way, and bringing them together with the tenuous trust they can muster during a time when trust was nearly impossible to give。 These women were strong, but also flawed, swayed by their past traumas and mistakes, and that made them so relatable。 I was glad *spoiler alert* that some of them ultimately find a happily ever after。I find myself intrigued by the stories of those during WWII who risked everything to do the right thing for those who were being persecuted。 Even though this one was fictional, it was inspired by true people and my heart flows at the character and moral fiber of such selfless people in the world。 "If you think one person can't make a difference in the fight against tyranny, I'm here to tell you you're wrong。 This woman is a testament to what happens when a single brave soul does the right thing。" I finished this book feeling inspired to look for ways and opportunities to always do the right thing, even if that will look different for me than for the characters in this story。 。。。more

I try to read as many WW2 historical fiction stories as possible。 This is one book I am so happy to have found。 It takes place in Paris at the beginning of the Nazi occupation。 Because of this book, I got to witness the lives of three completely different women brought together out of necessity。 Vivian is an American widow that has chosen to stay in France, remaining at the Ritz。 She continues her good works helping Jewish people escape, spending her money for the good of others。 Unfortunately, I try to read as many WW2 historical fiction stories as possible。 This is one book I am so happy to have found。 It takes place in Paris at the beginning of the Nazi occupation。 Because of this book, I got to witness the lives of three completely different women brought together out of necessity。 Vivian is an American widow that has chosen to stay in France, remaining at the Ritz。 She continues her good works helping Jewish people escape, spending her money for the good of others。 Unfortunately, she catches the eye of an SS officer that will change her life forever。 To survive, to help others survive, she will need the assistance of Camille, a Ritz Hotel Housekeeper。 Camille is doing everything she can to make more money to protect her baby sister。 By assisting Vivian, she can earn the money needed。 When Vivian is required to move in with the officer Camille takes a job as house keeper。 She will earn more and she will be able to help her friend, Rachel, who was let go from the hotel for being Jewish。 Through these ladies the reader experiences the many struggles that Paris citizens faced。 Vivian became a dedicated spy, feeding information about the construction of Drancy Internment Center。 I was reminded of the many sacrifices that people like her had to suffer in order to help win the war。 She is the unsung heroine in this story, always believed to evil when she was only trying to help。 The risks of being a courier are highlighted in Camille。 She may have done a lot of it for the money, but she risked her life daily。 The reader learns of the many challenges the citizens of France endured。 The reader learns of their daily struggles。 When she decided to help her friend, Rachel, she risked her life with every breath she took。 So many nail biting moments。 I had heard of the many Jews that lived in hiding。 But until you read stories like this one, it is hard to imagine how difficult their lives were。 They literally had to put their lives in the hands of others。 I am left in awe of the bravery exhibited by these three ladies。 The Paris Housekeeper is a very emotional read。 The last few chapters were a nerve wracking read。 Total respect for all those that endured those horrible times。 My heart breaks for the hundreds of thousands that did not make it to the end。 My heart bleeds for those that had to go on without them。 The Paris Housekeeper is yet another reminder that we should never forget so that we never repeat the horrors inflicted on others。 。。。more

War has a tendency to bring people from all walks of life together for better or for worse。 So is the case with Renee Ryan’s latest novel, The Paris Housekeeper。Set in France during World War II, the story focuses on three women。 First is the American, Vivian, who uses her vast wealth to provide identity cards to help Jewish families escape to freedom。 Then there is Rachel from a Jewish family whose father is convinced that, since they are non-practicing in their faith, they will be spared。 Last War has a tendency to bring people from all walks of life together for better or for worse。 So is the case with Renee Ryan’s latest novel, The Paris Housekeeper。Set in France during World War II, the story focuses on three women。 First is the American, Vivian, who uses her vast wealth to provide identity cards to help Jewish families escape to freedom。 Then there is Rachel from a Jewish family whose father is convinced that, since they are non-practicing in their faith, they will be spared。 Lastly, there is Camille, who takes on the responsibility of caring for her sister, who, after a horrendous family tragedy, has become depressed, withdrawn with continual nightmares。 This does not fit in with Hitler’s vision for the perfect race。 The story is really about trust, guilt and betrayal。 In the end, there will be redemption – but at a cost。 How far would you go to protect someone? How would you act under extreme fear? It is a novel with memorable characters and life-changing decisions。I strongly recommend “The Paris Housekeeper。” Easily 4 1/2 stars。 。。。more

4。5Wow, what a story, I could not put it down。 This is a story is told from three points of view, a glamorous American widow Vivian Miller a long time resident at the Ritz in Paris, and two young women, a French chambermaid Camille Lacroix, and a Jewish chambermaid Rachel Berman, who work at the hotel as the Nazi's take over Paris in 1940, and ultimately take over the hotel。 And the lengths each goes to in order to help others, or to navigate unjust persecution under the oppression from the Germ 4。5Wow, what a story, I could not put it down。 This is a story is told from three points of view, a glamorous American widow Vivian Miller a long time resident at the Ritz in Paris, and two young women, a French chambermaid Camille Lacroix, and a Jewish chambermaid Rachel Berman, who work at the hotel as the Nazi's take over Paris in 1940, and ultimately take over the hotel。 And the lengths each goes to in order to help others, or to navigate unjust persecution under the oppression from the Germans, and how all three lives become intertwined。Author Renee Ryan is a amazing storyteller。 Her unforgettable characters come to life on the page。 They make tough choices, and exhibit courage in the face of difficult circumstances, and her books are hard to put down。 I like the authors note at the end that tells about what is real history in the book。I enjoyed it so much, I purchased a copy of the real life heroine the story is partially based on。I highly recommend The Paris Housekeeper to lovers of WWII historical fiction。Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

A story about two courageous women, both different but strong。 Each trying to help the less fortunate during the war。 I thought this was such a heartbreakingly sad book。 To think that Jews were treated this way is just unbelievable。 If you’re a fan of WW2 historical fiction definitely add it to your list。 Thanks to the author for the early copy

5 Stars! Immediately engaging。 An excessively wealthy widow, a young Jewish girl, and a blonde, blue eyed chambermaid with a family secret - lives intertwined by chance as Germany begins their occupation of Paris。 Secrets shared and secrets of their own。 Heartbreaking and hopeful, we are taken right alongside the characters as things unfold。 A wonderfully told tale that I could barely set down。 The author did an excellent job start to finish and I particularly enjoyed the epilogue and author’s n 5 Stars! Absolutely heartbreaking and gut wrenching to read about the horrific atrocities of the holocaust but also it is mesmerizing to read about the bravery and strength it took to survive。 This book is one you must read and absolutely will be glued to the pages。 There are three woman who have ties from the Hotel Ritz in Paris when German tanks infiltrate the city。 Choices must be made and sometimes they aren’t the best but are made with good intentions。 Choices can dictate our destiny and I found tha Absolutely heartbreaking and gut wrenching to read about the horrific atrocities of the holocaust but also it is mesmerizing to read about the bravery and strength it took to survive。 This book is one you must read and absolutely will be glued to the pages。 There are three woman who have ties from the Hotel Ritz in Paris when German tanks infiltrate the city。 Choices must be made and sometimes they aren’t the best but are made with good intentions。 Choices can dictate our destiny and I found that applies to the outcome of the story。 It’s hard to give a review without spoilers as I don’t want to give anything away。 I connected with all three women and their story and it is so wonderfully written that it pulls you right in。 I was on the edge of my seat wanting to help it was so vivid and real。 If I had to say anything that I wanted more of it would be the Faith element as it seemed lost in the overall storyline。 By the end I had tears pouring some were sad and some were emotional happy tears。 Just know I loved it and recommend ordering and reading as soon as possible。 Mine is going on my keeper shelf。 I was blessed to receive a complimentary copy from the author/publisher。 The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required。 。。。more

A story about brave, gutsy, heroic women who put everything on the line for other people and because they want to do the right thing for humanity。 I was scared and worried for the characters, and brought to tears by the ending。 Taking place during a horrible era in our past that I hope we never experience again, this is a gripping and heart wrenching story。 The book is loosely based on real historic events。Excellent read。 I highly recommend this book

What an amazing story that will grip you Even though people are leaving Paris during WW11, Vivian is one that hasn’t got that luxury Even with danger all around, she’s thinking of others。 As you turn each page, the heartbreak and emotions are felt as if you are a part of everything。 This is one book everyone should read。
